Why This Workshop Matters

Research requires more than technical knowledge. It requires the ability to critically analyze literature, write compelling scholarly arguments, and revise work from a reviewer's perspective. This workshop provides a structured environment to develop these essential research writing skills.

Critical reading and analysis

Participants learn to identify research gaps, evaluate methodologies, and position their work within existing scholarship through systematic literature review and conceptualization.

Research writing excellence

The workshop emphasizes clear research framing, appropriate academic structure, and evidence-based argumentation that meets scholarly standards and reviewer expectations.

Peer review perspective

Students practice giving and receiving constructive feedback, learning to critique their own work through a reviewer's lens and revise effectively based on scholarly critique.

Research Writing & Peer Review Workshop

This four-week workshop operates parallel to coursework and is designed to provide a structured, supportive environment for developing essential research writing skills. Participants learn to critically analyze literature, construct well-reasoned scholarly arguments, and revise their work from a peer reviewer's perspective. The emphasis is on disciplined writing practice, constructive feedback, and measurable improvement in both research clarity and scholarly communication.

How the Workshop Sessions Work

Each session is designed to strengthen research writing skills while maintaining high academic standards. The emphasis is on professional growth, not perfection.

1) Read and Conceptualize

Participants learn to critically analyze academic papers and identify research gaps. The focus is on clearly defining research problems, understanding existing literature, outlining methodologies, and positioning your work within scholarly conversations. This foundation strengthens clarity, organization, and research framing.

2) Execute and Write

Building on conceptualization, participants develop their research approach and begin writing. Sessions cover methodology design, evidence evaluation, and structuring compelling arguments. Feedback focuses on logical organization, scholarly tone, argument clarity, and adherence to academic writing standards.

3) Apply Peer Review

Participants learn to think like peer reviewers, providing and receiving constructive critique. Using clear evaluation criteria, students assess research framing, methodology, argument strength, and writing clarity. The goal is constructive, standards-based feedback that strengthens both content and presentation.

4) Revise and Refine

Participants apply structured feedback to revise their work, demonstrating measurable improvement in research writing. Revision is where preparation transforms into polished scholarly communication, and writing becomes clearer, more rigorous, and publication-ready.

Format

Faculty-led sessions with guided peer critique. The goal is a professional environment where students learn to write with clarity and scholarly rigor.

Who should join

Students who want to strengthen research writing, improve critical analysis skills, and develop peer review expertise will benefit most from this workshop.

What we will evaluate

Writing quality, visible improvement across drafts, peer review effectiveness, and participant feedback to inform future workshop iterations.

Looking Ahead

As the workshop develops and divisional guidance becomes available, it may evolve into a research writing symposium.

Publication-ready writing track

An advanced track where students refine papers for submission to conferences or journals, receiving targeted feedback on meeting publication standards and responding to reviewer comments.

Cross-disciplinary collaboration

Future expansion across programs would bring diverse research perspectives to peer review sessions, enriching feedback quality while maintaining academic rigor and writing standards.
